I was working on my Christmas list the other day and realized that it’s getting shorter in some areas but longer in others. While we don’t do gifts for some people anymore, we now have more people with the addition of girlfriends and boyfriends.
And with both sides of our families doing some sort of large group exchange, our list of random “exchange” gifts has grown in just the last couple of years. Not that I’m complaining! I love this part of Christmas!
But both exchanges state that the gift must cost less than $15 (or very close) and normally it’s recommended to be gender neutral but not required. Do you have any idea how hard it can be to find a gender-neutral gift for under $15 sometimes?
Thankfully, I have a few that I’ve already picked up throughout the year and one that is a constant on the list. And then, this year, I texted the boys to see if they wanted to buy their own gifts or if they wanted us to buy them this year. One replied that he wanted to shop with his girlfriend for their exchange gifts and the other said he and his girlfriend are just too busy.
So, that helped the list. Now, I’m down to needing just a few more! And I have just the idea of what I want to do for one of them!
A DIY Christmas Gift
Yep, a do-it-yourself Christmas gift! I know, you’re shocked, aren’t you! You didn’t see this one coming, did you?!?
Well, this one is (of course) super simple, can be pulled off in just a few days, and with only a few items. And I personally think it’ll be very popular in the gift exchange!

Are you ready for this? Homemade Candy Vodka
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 – 2.17-ounce bag of Skittles (like you get in the checkout lanes)
5 – smallish size bottles (I reuse the bottles from these)
1 – bottle of your choice vodka
Divide the Skittles by color and place in the bottom of each bottle. Fill each bottle with vodka. Let them stand until the Skittles dissolve. Strain the cloudy Skittle vodka through coffee filters until it’s much clearer. Place it back in the bottles and top it off with vodka to fill the bottle. Decorate the bottle to your choosing.
A DIY Christmas Gift for less than $15.
Unless you picked a really good bottle of vodka! Just sayin’.
Not a Skittle fan? Try something different! What about Jolly Ranchers or LifeSavers?
More of a chocolate lover? Make the Whiskey Chocolate Sauce instead! It’s just as good and just as easy!
